COURT OF HONOR

Boy Scout Troop 96 held its fifth Court of Honor on April 13, 1999 at the American Legion Hall. A Boy Scout Court of Honor is a meeting to formally recognize the Scouts who have advanced in rank, earned merit badges, or other awards.

The Master of the Ceremonies(MC) for the evening was Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Seth. (The Communications Merit Badge (a required merit badge for Eagle) requires the boys to invite a guest speaker, act as MC for a Troop Court of Honor, give a five minute speech, and more. The boys in our troop take turns with this, in order to earn their merit badge.) Seth called the meeting to order and introduced the Honor Guard, who presented the flags. Our special guests included Cody, and the parents and families of our boys.

Seth welcomed our guests and speaker. The opening was given by Senior Patrol Leader, Todd. We recited the Scout Oath & Law, then he read a article about John Wayne and what he had to say about the Scout Oath and Law. Doc read the committee report, advising boys and parents of several policy changes.

Next, Seth introduced our guest speaker, 'Doc'. He talked to us about Camp Laramie Peak, where we will be attending summer camp. He told the history of the camp, then shared some of our past experiences and let the boys and parents know about the high adventure programs, merit badges, and free time activities that are available. He followed this with CLP's promotional video.

Awards and merit badges were presented by JASM, Samuel, with MC, Seth and Troop Guide, Rick, performing the ceremony.  Earning their next ranks were: Scout: Russ, Pat, and Nick. Tenderfoot: Russ, Nick, and Pat. Star: Jeff A, Costa, Neil, and Allan. Earning merit badges were Sean (Swimming & Skiing), Sam (Citizen in the World), Russ (Citizen in the Nation), Todd (Citizen in the Nation, Emergency Preparedness, & Geneology), Costa (Camping, Citizen in the Community, Emergency Preparedness, First Aid, & Wilderness Survival), Nick (Citizen in the Nation), Rick (Citizen in the Nation, Citizen in the World, Emergency Preparedness, & Family Life), Neil (Cooking), Seth (Citizen in the Nation, First Aid & Wilderness Survival), & Allan (Camping, Citizen in the Nation, & First Aid).  Receiving Tree Plant and SOAR (Save Our American Resources)Patches for helping with Ft. Robinson's Tree Re-Plant were Russ, Todd, Costa, Nick, Rick, Joseph, Seth, & Allan. The Pedro Patrol received a 3rd place in breads at the Winter Klondike. The Panther Patrol received stars for being a National Honor Patrol. SM Ginny and ASM Kerri were awarded the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster of the year in the Wyo-Braska District. Costa, Rick, Russ, Pat & Nick received perfect attendance awards for both troop meetings, and all troop functions. Friends of Scouting awards were handed out to all families who donated to the FOS campaign.
Kerri read the announcements, and we learned our troop patch will be completed in about two weeks. Ginny closed with the Scoutmaster's Minute about what she feels makes a 'good' scout.  She said she felt 'honor' was the main ingredient, then explained why she felt that way. Seth introduced the Color Guard, and the colors were retired.
